From Basic Chords to Feeling Confident Playing With Others
Kelly joined Flatpick Foundations while learning both banjo and guitar. She wasn’t chasing flashy solos, she just wanted a clear path forward and the confidence to keep going.
When she started, she only knew a handful of open chords. Now she understands why things work, can build simple bluegrass licks, and feels comfortable showing up to jams without feeling lost.

People who want to play like Billy Strings overnight… this starts with the basics
Players who can already play fast, clean licks and feel good playing at bluegrass jams

Who is this program for?
You’re not a ‘beginner’… but still don’t sound like a bluegrass player
You know basic chords… but don’t know how to turn them into bluegrass (with on-screen tabs so you can follow along)
You’re tired of jumping between random YouTube videos and want a clear, step-by-step way to finally sound like you’re actually playing bluegrass
I’m Cody, a flatpicker from East Tennessee who’s spent years chasing down what makes bluegrass guitar feel right.
From long nights picking on Knoxville porches to studying at East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass & Old-Time Country Music program, I’ve been lucky to learn from players like Barry Bales (Alison Krauss and Union Station) and Robert Bowlin (Bill Monroe’s Bluegrass Boys)...musicians who taught me that tone, timing, and heart matter more than flash.
Before teaching online, I spent years in the classroom, learning how to keep students engaged and make new concepts stick.
That experience taught me how to explain things clearly, meet learners where they are, and build lessons that actually connect. Bringing those same principles into the digital space has allowed me to help guitar players of all ages make steady, lasting progress, no matter their starting point.
If you’ve always wanted to play bluegrass with confidence, I’ll show you how to build it step by step inside my course, Flatpick Foundations.
